Emerging from the vibrant Liverpool music scene in 1993, Space quickly became a defining voice of the mid-1990s Britpop era with their unique and eclectic sound. Famously self-dubbed "queasy listening," their music artfully fused traditional indie-rock sensibilities with unexpected elements of techno, hip-hop, and cinematic scores. This distinctive blend, propelled by the evocative vocals of frontman Tommy Scott and the dynamic guitar riffs of Jamie Murphy, set them apart from their peers. Space masterfully combined infectious melodies with witty, often dark, and introspective lyrical themes, creating a truly original sonic tapestry.

The band achieved significant commercial success with their first two albums. "Spiders" (1996) and "Tin Planet" (1998) both soared to the top of the UK charts, yielding a string of top-ten singles. Iconic tracks like the atmospheric "Female of the Species" and the playfully quirky "Neighborhood" became anthems of the era. Their 1998 collaboration with Cerys Matthews on "The Ballad of Tom Jones" further cemented their status as chart contenders.

Despite their meteoric rise, the band's journey was marked by challenges, including internal strife and the tragic passing of original drummer Andy Parle. These difficulties led to a hiatus in the early 2000s.

Space reunited in 2011, much to the delight of their dedicated fanbase, and have since continued to tour and release new music, including albums such as "Attack of the 50ft Woman" and "Music for Pleasure Music for Pain." While the lineup has evolved over the years, with Tommy Scott remaining the consistent creative force, Space continues to be celebrated for their imaginative artistry, daring musical explorations, and enduring presence on the UK and European music circuit.

'Spiders' is the debut album by Space, released on 16 September 1996, peaking at #5 in the UK Albums Chart, later going platinum. 'Spiders' peaked at #45 in New Zealand in May 1997, and #35 in Finland. 'Money', 'Kill Me', 'Neighbourhood', 'Female of the Species', 'Me and You Versus the World' and 'Dark Clouds' (the first two combined together as a double A-side) were released as singles, though the former was re-recorded for the album. It sold an estimated 800,000 copies between 1996 and 1998.

Phoenix Music International is pleased to present the official music video for 'Neighbourhood' by Space.

'Neighbourhood' is a song by Space, written by band members Tommy Scott and Franny Griffiths, and released as the second single (though the band prefer it to be the first, as they consider 'Money'/'Kill Me' to be a "test" release) from their debut album, 'Spiders', and their third single altogether. It was originally released on 25 March 1996 and peaked at #56 in the UK charts, but it was later re-released on 21 October that year, this time peaking at #11. In Australia, 'Neighbourhood' entered the ARIA top 100 singles chart on 9 February 1997 at #90, its peak. "Neighbourhood" peaked at #22 in New Zealand in March 1997.
