Girls Aloud were a British girl group formed in 2002 through the ITV reality television show Popstars. The quintet consisted of Cheryl Tweedy (now Cole), Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh. They became one of the United Kingdom's best-selling girl groups of the 21st century, renowned for their energetic pop anthems and charismatic performances. Their music primarily falls under the pop genre, with strong influences from rock and dance-pop, often characterized by catchy melodies, vibrant production, and confident vocals. 

The group achieved significant commercial success with a string of hit singles and albums. Their debut single, "Sound of the Underground," released in 2002, topped the UK Singles Chart and earned them a BRIT Award nomination. This was followed by a series of highly successful singles such as "Love Machine," "I'll Stand by You" (a cover of The Pretenders' hit, which became their first number-one single), "Call the Shots," and "The Promise." Their albums also performed well, with "The Sound of the Underground" and "What Will the Neighbours Say?" both reaching high chart positions. 

Throughout their career, Girls Aloud were known for their vibrant stage presence and their ability to connect with a wide audience. They released five studio albums: "Sound of the Underground" (2003), "What Will the Neighbours Say?" (2004), "Chemistry" (2005), "Tangled Up" (2007), and "Out of Control" (2008). Their music often featured collaborations with renowned songwriters and producers, contributing to their polished and contemporary sound. 

In 2009, after a period of hiatus, the group announced their separation, embarking on a farewell tour. However, they reunited in 2012 to celebrate their tenth anniversary with a greatest hits album, "Ten," and a subsequent arena tour. Girls Aloud left a significant mark on British pop music, celebrated for their enduring hits and their journey from a reality TV competition to one of the UK's most beloved pop acts.
